CD Baby Sold, Derek Sivers to Launch MuckWork[?]
Yesterday the sale of CD Baby to Disc Makers was announced.
Founder Derek Sivers wasn’t that involved in the company anymore and wants to focus on other projects.
Though I can’t find it now, I recently saw a comment from Sivers saying he would be focusing on MuckWork, a site that will launch “soon” at muckwork.com and most likely will focus on helping musicians outsource services.
Note: currently http://www.muckwork.com doesn’t take you to the site which is at:
http://muckwork.comApparently there was a blog up called MuckWork Marketing but the site’s been pulled. However, I’m getting the impression they’re preparing for launch and may have gone through some changes along the way.
ES posted a recent email exchange with Sivers where he shares some details of MuckWork and gives the impression that he’s in idea spinning mode:
“IDEA 1: http://muckwork.com”
“Scattered around the world are people who would be glad to help, if it was made efficient. A freelance journalist in LA that loves writing intriguing bios for new artists. A musician in Buenos Aires that is an expert at setting up fellow musicians on all the popular music-related websites, and can do it quite cheap. An artist in Australia who’s been booking her own tours for 10 years, and would rather stay home with the kids more often, helping others book their tours instead.”
“I could make a system to connect musicians that need a little help with those that are available to help. Because of the strength-in-numbers of the people I know through CD Baby (200,000 musicians, 1.5 million music fans, tons of industry contacts), it could be made quite efficient.”
I can’t wait to see what this is all about. It sounds kind of like an Elance for musician services.
