Chuck N Lock - “SEE XL”

I’ve been digging everything I’ve heard from Delaware duo Chuck N Lock. Their taste in beats is both exemplary & filthy, and they construct some meticulous bars to match. Their latest release, “SEE XL,” feels like a breakthrough. They just work too hard to stay underground for much longer, and this nine song set is pure murder.

On the mic, Chuck Angus and Lockjaw have quite similar styles, but unlike so many rap duos, I find myself unable to decide which of them is the best. This is a crucial ingredient. Equally crucial are the contributions of Mass beatsmith Greymatter, who delivers three monumental heatrocks and sets the tone for SEE XL from the jump. The rest of the production fits perfectly, and this is one of the most consistently curated projects I’ve heard in 2023.
